Public Audit of Sustainable Development Goals

Abstract

This article discusses the role of public audit in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. The Sustainable Development Goals are a program adopted by the United Nations aimed at ensuring a balance between social-economic development and environmental protection. Achieving these goals is a prerequisite for the long-term development of any country. Public audit is an essential tool in reaching these goals, as it monitors the effective and transparent use of resources and helps determine the effectiveness of actions aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. As a result of public audit, the efficiency of state planning system documents in implementing the sustainable development agenda can be evaluated. The article analyses the experiences of the Supreme Audit Institutions of Finland, Turkey and Russia, which have integrated public audit of Sustainable Development Goals into their practice. It also examines Kazakhstan’s progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and explores ways to improve these indicators.
